HOW GOD SAVES US FROM OUR OWN SIN
Nothing else matters unless we first accept that the Holy Word of God is the ultimate authority
1. What does the bible say about how or what God uses to extend the offer of salvation to you?
Paul says in Romans “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation…”
2. Does the bible give us a clear definition of the gospel?
Paul tells us exactly what the gospel is that he received and what is most important about the gospel. Christ’s death is most important because only his blood is worthy to wash away the sins of man. His burial so that he would be able to be resurrected. His resurrection so he could demonstrate His complete victory over Satan and sin. Paul received the gospel by divine revelation from Jesus himself on the road to Damascus as we are told in the book of Acts. He then gives it to us as he received it from Christ.
3. Are we as people called to be obedient to this death, burial and resurrection?
Obedience to the gospel (doctrine to which you were entrusted) is what we are called to become a member of those saved from the penalty of sin. Freedom from sin allows a new freedom in Christ, or a new master. We become slaves of righteousness (being right with God) by being obedient to the gospel. We all have a choice to want to become more like Christ or not to! The only way to the Father is by the Son.
4. How do we get into Christ Jesus?
We are baptized into the body of Christ through the power of the blood which he shed there on the cross. It is through this act of obedience that we come in contact with the blood that was shed and has the power of God behind it to wash away the guilt of sin. Jesus truly paid a debt I could not pay. My blood is not worthy because of my sin. He who knew no sin became sin so that I might live through Him. It only makes sense that if Christ paid my debt that I now owe him everything! That is not to say that this is negative as your first response might be. He is my Creator and following His guidelines for life makes for a more fulfilling life. Some people can use a fence post to lie along a fence and try to stop things from passing, but the post is most useful as a post supporting the fence. It is only when we allow Him to show us the purpose that He made us for that we are most fulfilled. He wants us to seek him out and find out what is pleasing to Him.
God is good, all the time. Oh God, create in me a clean heart, teach me Your Will and help me look for Your Ways in all my days.
